Doug Manning

Doug Manning is a Barrie, Ontario lawyer experienced in all aspects of family law both as a litigator for spouses and parents, and as a mediator and arbitrator providing guidance to, and resolutions for, spouses who are unable to resolve for themselves the thorny issues arising from separation. Doug learned early on his career that he really enjoyed helping families resolve the issues arising from a family breakdown so that each member of the family can heal and move on to maintain productive, fulfilling lives.

After performing two years of post-undergraduate work in Child Studies at the University of Toronto and receiving a graduate diploma in 1978, he received an Honours B.Sc. in developmental psychology from the University of Toronto (1976). Doug attended law school at the University of Windsor and was called to the Bar in 1984 and has been practicing law in Barrie, Ontario since 1985. He is Certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a “Specialist in Family Law”.

Touching on all aspects and issues facing separating spouses including child custody, child support, spousal support, property division, assumption of debt, pension division, and the negotiation of separation agreements, Doug has been offering mediation services in Barrie, Simcoe County and Muskoka since 1998 and arbitration services since 2006.

Doug is an Accredited Mediator/Arbitrator by ADR Institute of Ontario Inc. and the Ontario Association of Family Mediation, a Dispute Resolution Officer for family law matters in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice Central East Region and a founding member of the Simcoe County Family Law Lawyers’ Association. He has served on its Executive for several years and was also a member of the Court’s Community Liaison Committee.

As a co-author of “Adoption Law in Canada” (Carswell) and “The Child and Family Services Act: A Guide to Part III” (Butterworths); and other articles for Money & Family Law, Doug is also currently a contributor to “Matrimonial Matters” law blog.
